Skin Lesions

Skin-cancerA skin lesion is a part of the skin that has an abnormal growth or appearance compared to the skin around it. Some skin lesions are hereditary such as freckles and are benign. Other lesions turn into skin cancer such as melanomas. Melanomas are less common and usually curable if detected early.

To diagnose a skin lesion, one of our surgeons will give you an exam and ask about all symptoms. To confirm a diagnosis, we may take skin samples, perform a biopsy of the affected area, or take a swab from the lesion to send to a lab. Your treatment is personalized to the underlying cause or causes for your skin lesion. We will consider the type of lesion, personal health history, and any unsuccessful treatments previously attempted.
